The PS5 Slim employs a newly redesigned centrifugal cooling fan that is slightly smaller and thinner than the one found in the original “Fat” models to accommodate the console’s reduced footprint. Built by manufacturers like Foxconn or Nidec, the fan typically features a high blade count designed to move a large volume of air at lower RPMs to minimize acoustic turbulence. It works in tandem with a custom heat pipe and fin array, drawing air through the redesigned intake gaps between the console’s four cover panels and exhausting heat out the back. While it lacks the massive diameter of the launch fan, its integration with the Slim’s updated 6nm “Oberon Plus” APU—which produces less heat than the original chip—allows the fan to maintain effective cooling without the aggressive noise spikes often associated with smaller cooling solutions.
